Hollow Knight is a 2D action game. You play as The Knight, a small fighter with a nail weapon. Your main job is to explore the large, old kingdom of Hallownest. You must find the deep, secret reason for its downfall.

How to Play Hollow Knight

Exploring the world is a big part of your task. You will travel through many areas like dark caves and old cities. When you unlock a new skill, like the double jump, it opens new paths. You need to check everywhere for hidden routes and important story pieces.

Master Difficult Combat

Fighting in this game is fast and needs high precision. You use your Nail to hit over 150 different enemies and strong bosses. You also learn powerful Spells that use Soul energy. You must master the timing for your attacks and dodges to stay alive. Rushing will cause you to die quickly.

Combat Tips

• Buy the map and quill right away from Cornifer the cartographer.
• Only use the Focus ability to heal when you are safe from enemies.
• When you meet new bosses, watch their attack patterns closely before hitting them.
• You find many different Charms hidden in the world. These items give The Knight special benefits. 

Controls

• Move: Use the Arrow Keys.
• Jump: Press the Z key.
• Attack: Swing your Nail with the X key.
• Magic: The A key to Focus or cast Spells. Use F for fast casting.
• Special Moves: Press C for Dash. Use D for the Dream Nail ability.
• Map/Menu: Press Tab for the quick map. Use I to open the Inventory.
